Image Size: 65x46cm — Envisioning the brightly lit streets of Shinjuku at night as a coral reef, and the radiant Isetan Shinjuku store as a jewelry box, I have encapsulated them in a large aquarium. The motifs of creatures drifting underwater represent the jewelry inside the store as well as the trains, cars, and airplanes passing outside the building. The Shinjuku-dori side highlights the transportation of the Showa era, while the Meiji-dori side features modern means of transport, paying homage to the history of Isetan Shinjuku from the Showa period to the Reiwa era. The cat by the window is my beloved pet who crossed the Rainbow Bridge a few years ago, yet continues to appear in my work. Here, I have depicted him gazing intently at his favorite shining and moving objects outside the window.
